Met Gala 2013 Best Dressed

The Met Gala is an annual ball hosted by Vogue magazine highlighting the opening of Metropolitan Museum’s fashion exhibit at the Costume Institute. The gala is considered to be the “Oscars” of the East Coast – and rightfully so, with all the big names from both the fashion industry and Hollywood! And the Met red carpet is actually the time when you could either go big or go home! And this year, with punk fashion being the theme – thankfully some a-listers chose to go big!

First to represent Tinseltown at number 5 is Dakota Fanning who wore a black Rodarte creation with sheer panelling and a strategically placed wings at the back. I love this look for it is appropriate to the 19-year old star, it is a bold choice without sacrificing her age!

Lily Collins and boyfriend Jamie Campbell Bower are one of the few who put punk-dressing into heart! Collins wore a studded Moschino creation which she complimented with hair & make-up that altogether screams punk – But her best accessory would probabaly be Jamie!

The biggest gasps of the night were probably caused by our number 3, Oscar winner Anne Hathaway who caught everyone by surprise with her bleached blonde hair! Anne arrived at the Gala wearing a Valentino gown and accompanied by Mr. Valentino himself, no less! Her look reminded me of a glamorized version of Debbie Harry with Anne’s sassy style.

British couple Sienna Miller & Tom Sturridge proved to be effortlessly stylish! Sienna, clad in a studded jacket by Burberry which she wore with a white dress by the same brand – the look was hard to pull-off but she made it look so easy! As if it wasn’t enough, she completed the look with spikes courtesy of her headband and earrings and topped it all off with her signature “Sienna” smug.

The girl with the dragon tattoo was the girl in Givenchy at number 1, Rooney Mara served as a chair member together with Anna Wintour and Givenchy at this year’s gala and I have to say, only Rooney can wear an all white ensemble and make it look the ultimate punk look!

For some reason, I decided to separate the Hollywood stars and the runway models category in my list and so, here goes the second half… I always say that the Met is always the time when models eat the Hollywood ladies alive and this year well, I’d still give it to the models – for the plain reason that their choices were bolder.

At number 5 is Estee Lauder ambassador, Constance Jablonski. The French model wore a gold cutout dress by Wes Gordon and it’s fabulous! Although, she could have played more with her hair…

The new face of Victoria’s Secret’s PINK line wowed in a custom-made ALIA gown delivered straight from Paris for the event! Oh, to be a VS angel! Now, I wasn’t really a fan of her fashion choices but this instance proved that picking the right dress is vital!

From one angel to another, Doutzen Kroes was simple yet spot on! The Dutch beauty wore a Theyskens Theory dress which has the perfect contrast of leather and sheer. I also love that her hair was sleeked-back, giving the dress its’ rightful attention.

If there’s any model that’s guaranteed to give us punk, it certainly is Cara Delevingne – everyone’s favorite model and Burberry’s face wore a custom plunging creation by the brand which oozes both sex and rock. PS. I love the hair!

And the best dressed of them all (at least for me) is Anja Rubik! Now, this lady is no stranger when it comes to making head turns – remember last year’s hipbone fiasco? The thing is, with hipbone or none; she always gets it right! And this year, she’s right on mark in a leather Anthony Vacarello creation; from the dress to the hair and make-up and everything else, she rocked it.

Lastly, here’s to the ones who almost made the list if they had been more obedient to the theme!
