It’s not everyday that Hollywood decides to produce a comedy film about two women without involving romance and shopping so when opportunity presented itself, how could Sandra Bullock & Melissa McCarthy refuse the offer?
The Heat is a comedy film directed by Bridesmaids director, Paul Feig and is about an uptight FBI special agent, Sarah Ashburn (Bullock) who was sent to Boston to take down a Russian mobster but in order to do that, she would need the help of a very testy Boston detective, Shannon Mullins (McCarthy) and together, they will test each other’s patience but the two misfits must come to terms and accept that they need each other (and just the right amount of whisky) to take down Boston’s druglord.
I am so glad that Bullock and McCarthy were casted to play the two characters for they have the comedic chemistry and chops to pull-off the humor of the film which is both sarcastic and straightforward. Certainly, the film and the script requires boldness which the two provided – in short, the casting was spot-on! They both performed believably that even the most outrageous things were believable and I found myself laughing hard, too hard I think! And I’m glad I was accompanied by my very good friend, Bea Regala because it really is a girlfriend type of movie. As for the script and story wise, it was fresh and although it had its moments of predictability, the twists certainly made up for it! Kudos to Paul Feig for coming up with another comedic masterpiece!
If you are planning to watch it, then don’t hesitate and go see it on a cinema near you!
